Flu shots available from Health Department

The Brown County Health Department will be offering flu shots 9 a.m.-noon Thursday, Oct. 8, at Bristow Pharmacy in Ripley.

The flu shot is available for anyone six months and older and is $25. Medicaid or Medicare Part B is accepted, but no Medicare HMO’s.

Medicare check-up day

A free service, Medicare Check-up Day, will be brought to you by the Ohio Senior Health Insurance Information Program at the Ohio Department of Insurance.

In Brown County, the check-up will take place at ABCAP, locted 406 W.Plum Street, in Georgetown, 9 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 8. RSVP at 937-378-3818.

Catholic Rural Life

group to meet

Catholic Rural Life of the St. Martin Deanery will hold a regular meeting 7 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 8. On the agenda is planning for the “Buy Local Foods” seminar scheduled for Jan. 31 and information on the Blue Ribbon Panel Discussion of the Pope’s recent encyclical on Oct. 31 in Columbus. The meetings are open to anyone who shares the goals of bringing a Christian perspective to life in rural areas, preserving rural heritage and working to promote dialogue between rural and urban leaders.

GUM Church to hold Attics Treasures fundraiser

The Georgetown United Methodist Church will hold an Attics Treasures fundraiser at the church, located 217 S. Main Street, in Georgetown. The church is located at the corner of Main and State Streets. Use the State Street entrance to the Fellowship Hall.

The sale will take place from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 8, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday, Oct. 9, and from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 10.

St. George rummage sale rescheduled for this weekend

St. George will host a rummage sale from 9 a.m. – 6 p.m. Friday, Oct. 9, and from 9 a.m. – 4 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 10 at St. George Church. Breakfast and lunch will be served both days. Some of the items available include furniture, small power tools, clothing, appliances, kitchen and decorative items.

Ripley Lions Club

tenderloin dinner

The Ripley Lions Club will host a tenderloin dinner 5-7 p.m. Friday, Oct. 9. The dinner will be held at the Ripley Life Squad building, located on US Route 52 in Ripley.

Proceeds will be used to support the Lions Club charity gifts to the local communities.

Mt. Orab Women’s Club annual quarter raffle

The Mt. Orab Women’s Club holds an annual quarter raffle as a fund raiser for the Mt. Oreb Depot and the Little Red Caboose. All proceeds are the restoration and preservation of the landmarks.

The raffle will be held at mt. Orab Elementary School on Oct. 9. Doors open 6 p.m. and the raffle begins 6:30 p.m. Paddles are $1 each. There will be a split the pot, basket raffle, vendor shopping and food will be available for purchase.

Some of the vendors included in the event are Origami Owl, Tupperware, Tastefully Simple, Mary Kay, Scentsy and more.

True Church of God

to host rummage sale

The True Church of God, located 513 Market Street, New Richmond, will hold a church rummage sale 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Oct. 9 and 10.

Clothing is $5 a bag, or by the piece. Most other items are make an offer.

Benefit for Larry Luscheck

A benefit fundraiser will be held beginning 9 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 10 for Larry Luscheck, who has been diagnosed with multiple myeloma bone cancer. The event will be held on the OVAM showground in Georgetown.

A 5K Run/Walk, a corn hole tournament, a quarter auction, a dinner-dance-Chinese auction, and a fundraising auction will be part of the events.

Bring lawn chairs for the events. This is a BYOB event, coolers are acceptable to for the event.

Lake Waynoka Shawnee Squaws to host Craft Fair

The Shawnee Squaws of Lake Waynoka will host the 11th annual Shawnee Squaws Craft Fair. The event is open to the public and will be held from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 10, in the Recreation Center Gym. Admission and parking is free.

There will be food available for purchase and a split the pot drawing.

There is space for 35 handcrafter exhibitors; many are one of a kind with very unique items available.

A Garden Seminar will be offered from 7 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 15, sponsored by the Master Gardeners.

The seminar will take place at the Mt. Orab Campus of SSCC in Room 107.

Community Lanes to host benefit for Barrios family

Community Lanes, in Georgetown, will be hosting a Bowling Benefit from 1-4 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 17, for the Barrios family. Four family members were lost due to a flash flood in the area on July 19. Vicky Kennard and her unborn child, and children Gabe Barrios and Rose Barrios were lost in the flood.

Mammography

screening offered

The Brown County Health Department will offer mobile mammography screenings 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Monday, Oct. 19. The van will be located in the parking lot of the health department.

Screenings are covered by Medicare, Medicaid and most insurance companies under the following guideline: ages 35-40 baseline screenings.

Appointments are necessary and may be made by calling 937-378-6892 to schedule a screening.

BCBDD to hold meeting

The Brown County Board of Developmental Disabilities will hold their regular scheduled board meeting 4:30 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 21 at the Brown County Board of Developmental Disabilities Center, located 325 West State Street, Building A, Suite 2, in Georgetown.

The Rambler Center in Russellville (the old Russellville School) will be the site of the 10th annual Christmas Craft Show and Salefrom 9 a.m. – 3 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 7.
