SARDINIA - It is great senior leadership that has Eastern soccer head coach JP Gauche excited for the up coming season. Though it is still early on and practice is just getting started, he likes what he sees from his seniors.

“Right now we have some good leadership,” Gauche said. “I’ve got Jacob, Nate, Dakota, Eli, Kyle, and Brady, they are leading the team pretty well.”

The group of six seniors well be all important as the season gets into full swing and the Warriors can work on the skills that Gauche feels the team is lacking early on.

“Our passing is not where I would like it to be,” Gauche said. “We work well as a team and we make good decisions, which is probably the best thing right now.”

During practice, the Warriors were scrimmaging one another in a hard fought game with Gauche in the middle controlling the clock and whistle. Both sides were able to net three goals each and ending the practice scrimmage in a tie. Both sides were highly upset they did not have the opportunity to take the “game” from each other. They showed off their competitive spirits toward each other and practice to be the best they could be.

Gauche said his team has been playing soccer together for a long time between the grades. Three of his seniors have played together since they were in elementary school and his underclassmen have been playing together for nearly as long as the seniors. The experience makes it easier for Gauche to get the team on the same page.

“This group works well together but they are not executing right now,” Gauche said. “We will get our feet on the ball and work on it more with a little more practice I think we can be there.”

Despite Gauche’s criticism of his players not executing, the coach has high hopes for the 2014 fall season from his Warriors.

“We should do pretty good this season,” Gauche said. “I would like to say I would like for them to be one of the top teams in the league. I think that is every team’s expectations but I would like to think we can win league. Having six seniors and a good group that has been together awhile is going to help us put wins together. We replaced a good group of seniors from last year, but I think this group of seniors will step up and take over.”
