With the official signing period for select sports opening last week, a pair of Lady Tigers have made their college decisions.

Mackenzie Watson elected to head north to Lima to attend the University of Northern Ohio Racers, where she will play softball under head coach Tracy Coffman.

Watson also plays on the Lady Tigers’ basketball squad, but when springtime rolls around she finds herself behind the plate as the catcher on the Lady Tigers’ team.

According to Coffman, Watson was a top target for her team and her offensive skills are an excellent fit.

“Mackenzie is the catcher we wanted all summer while out recruiting so we were thrilled when she committed,” Coffman said. “She is so strong and can really hit the ball hard. She has great energy behind the plate and excellent leadership potential to take charge of our defense.”

Watson was a first-team All-Cincinnati selection last season after hitting .533 for the Lady Tigers. Her sophomore year, she hit .598 for Bethel. She joins a program that just began competition on the NAIA level last season and currently resides in the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference.

However, she was not the only Lady Tiger making her college decision official this week.

Basketball teammate Julia Jenike announced her decision to attend Florida International University last week. Jenike averaged 17.5 points and 6.6 rebounds per game for the Lady Tigers last season, who won 19 games before falling to Georgetown by two points in the sectional finals.

The Lady Tigers’ basketball team will hit the road for the first time in the 2015-2016 regular season November 30 when the team travels to Georgetown.
